Frequently Asked Questions:
If you have a question that you don't see please feel free to ask me /contact-me Thanks.
Are you a qualified teacher?
Yes, I completed my PGCE (General Primary Education) with Qualified Teacher Status on 8th July 2011. I have over 7 years’ experience teaching Early Years and Primary age children. I have a breath of classroom experience; I have worked with a wide range of students including those with special educational needs.
How long have you been a tutor?
I have been tutor since 2018, tutoring both Face to Face and Online. I always tailor the level of work covered to the individual student’s needs. To develop both their self confidence and attainment levels. I offer tuition lessons from EYFS - KS4 (4 - 16yrs). Please see my /testimonials to view current and past clients feedback.
I've never used a private tutor before, how does it work?
Lessons last for an hour. During the first lesson I assess your child’s needs through activities and discussion with yourself and your child. I tailor lessons to the child’s needs and to reflect their interests, I like to include games and practical activities whenever possible. I continually assess progress to determine next steps in their learning.
Do you guarantee your work?
I cannot guarantee that a student will pass a specific test, or earn a specific score in class or on any given test. I will however guarantee that I will strive to provide the best possible service. I will do everything in my power to help grades and skill sets improve. If for any reason I feel that I cannot adequately provide the student with what he or she needs, I will say so.
What is needed for online tutoring?
You will need a laptop, pc or ipad/tablet, and a good internet connection. You will need a webcam if you do not have one built in to your device. Most newer devices have microphones built in, but do check as you may need a separate one (a standalone or via a headset). A mouse works fine for most students, however if you prefer you can purchase a graphics tablet which can be useful for ease of writing. If you use an iPad/tablet, you can use a stylus pen or your finger.
How does online tutoring work?
As with face to face tutoring lessons last for an hour. During the first lesson I assess your child’s needs through activities and discussion with yourself and your child. I tailor lessons to the child’s needs and to reflect their interests, I like to include games and practical activities whenever possible. I continually assess progress to determine next steps in their learning. For online, we use zoom.us as our video link, I will send you the instructions for downloading this software (instructions can also be found /links-forms-and-resources). We will be using bitpaper.io as our collaborative whiteboard. We will be able to write on this board at the same time, just like a face to face lesson.
What are your hours of operation?
I generally answer phone calls, texts and emails from around 9am – 8pm. I do not answer phone calls, texts or emails when I am in a tutoring session. . Please be patient if I don’t get back to you straight away, as I will return you call, text, and email as soon as possible.

Please see /services-and-pricing-1
How do I pay?
Payment is by BACs, and must be paid and received at least 48hrs in advance of the first lesson.
Will homework be given?
I am happy to provide homework when requested. I would however expect any homework I set to be attempted/completed by the following lesson. In order so that I could go through this with the student to check understanding and target next steps for a given topic. If your child does not complete homework given, then no further homework will be provided until it has been attempted.

Yes, I do operate a waiting list, as there are times of the year when students come to the end of their tuition (May after KS2 SAT's and June after GCSE's). Places (each new academic year and mid-year) are allocated first to existing students and then to students on that year’s waiting list (in the order they were placed on the waiting list).
